Welcome to my world of art!

Hi everyone, welcome to my blog! My name is Megan, and I am the artist behind Blue Door Art Gallery. You might be thinking – why start a blog – aren't you a painter, not a writer? Well yes, but really I'm a dreamer. I hope that doesn’t sound too cheesy, but I am an introvert who lives with my head in the clouds and my nose in a book, so I wanted a way for people to get to know me and for me to get to know them!

I am going to start off talking about one of my earliest (and favorite) paintings.

Because I'm A Woman

When I go to the art museum, I am always much more interested in what a painting makes me feel or think rather than just reading what the artist wrote about it. So before I go on – send me a comment on what you think this piece is about or what it makes you feel!

The title of this piece is inspired by a book called “Hollow Kingdom” by Kira Jane Buxton. This is a hilarious, fun read with some pretty deep insights as well. It is about a pet crow who loves Cheetos during the zombie apocalypse. (Sounds amazing already right!!!) He wants to save his human, so goes looking for answers and gets some from an all-knowing Giant Pacific Octopus. When asked how she knows so much, she replies “I have nine brains-which never stop growing- three hearts, and I can regenerate my arms; but mostly, it’s because I’m female”.

I have always loved octopuses (yes, according to the Ocean Conservancy this is the correct way to pluralize it) because they are so intelligent and amazing – but this took it to a whole new level! Because I’m a Woman is about a cosmic being that may be omniscient and in charge of whole universes – but also just wants to have fun!

Make sure to follow me on Facebook and Instagram for all my newest art and info! Today, it is hard to get deeper than likes or follows – so PLEASE reach out with questions, comments, or anything at all – what do you want to talk about? Please keep it positive (Didn’t your momma teach you “If you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say it at all”?) I know mine did, and I still use that proverb all the time!

Thanks for reading if you made it this far!
